Hints and Tips
Here are some useful hints & tips to help you when building a model.
Choose a model that you will be confident of doing well, start simple and progress to more complex kits as you improve.
Choose a model that interests you.
Before starting make sure you have all the equipment you need such as glue, correct paints, brushes etc
Rather than trying to cut plastic parts from the spru in a single step, which will often result in minor damage, regard it as a two step process.
Cut the part from the spru framework with sharp pliers by cutting the spru a short distance from the part. With the part completely detached from the framework, you can use a sharp knife to trim of the bits of spru that are still attached to it and lightly sand if necessary.
Before gluing parts together, test that they make a good fit and lightly sand edges if required.
Ensure all parts are dust free before painting, if necessary wash in soapy water and dry thoroughly.
Research your model to help you make it as realistic as possible.
Fully read the instructions before starting.
Paint as many parts as possible on the spru.
When painting small parts off the spru, use Blu-tac to hold them instead of your fingers so you have both hands free.
Be careful when screwing parts together, you don’t need them over tight.
Use tweezers where possible i.e. when fitting brake lines or tiny parts.
Where possible, limit the use of glue i.e. bodywork fitting or assembly.
Allow each painted part or section to dry fully before assembly.
Apply decals earlier when possible i.e. the wheels, tyres, dashboard, seats etc.
Use lukewarm water for soaking decals, too hot could scald you or wrinkle the decal.
Take your time, enjoy it and be patient.
